I went on Christmas Day 2017, and luckily they were open. I was told I had to sit in the back of the place because of "reservations" but it was nearly empty!
Rude hostess aside, my food was so good! It's beautifully decorated, and the theme is based on literature, what's not to like?! -

Restaurant Week Summer 2019 review.
When I first saw Irvington's Restaurant Week menu, I made it a point to finally book a trip over - I've heard great things, and the RW offerings sounded delightful!
I came in solo for a quick lunch on a Friday with a noon reservation. I came in a couple minutes early, but was promptly seated. The server came by a couple moments later and offered me some water. I said that I happened to know what I'd like and if it was okay to order (had to be back at the office for a call at 1). For my app, I ordered on the grilled octopus (if octopus is on the menu, I'm probably going to order it) and my main would be the Irvington patty melt.
Grilled octopus - with harissa, crispy potatoes, and arugula. A major let down - at least half of the octopus pieces were burnt to a crisp. The potatoes were fine, and the harissa sauce had a great kick...but it couldn't mask the burnt-ness of the octopus. I was tempted to send it back, but I honestly didn't have the time with needing to be back at the office at a reasonable time. Major bummer
Irvington patty melt - a La Frieda blend with local american cheese, spicy onions, and fries. I swapped out the fries for a salad without any fuss, so that was nice. La Frieda patty itself was delightful and perfect medium rare, but the toast was very-well saturated with grease (well, at least I got the salad...). I pretty much went Atkins on this one and abandoned most of the toast.
I was really excited for my first trip to Irvington, but it was rather disappointing. The service was fine and the place looks immaculate, but maybe it was an off-day food-wise? Hope so, but not sure I'm in a rush to figure that out. -

The only restaurant/bar in New York where I've been carded. Food was good. The fish for both appetizers (Tuna Tartare Taco and Yellowtail Crudo) was perfect!! Fries were decent.
Service was weird - one waitress gave us our menu. Another one took our drink order. The first waitress came by to take our drink order and food after. The second came by with drinks and wanted to take our food order. That basically happened the whole night. Staff didn't seem to communicate well with each other - a waiter came out and dropped off the wrong plates before bringing it back to the kitchen. They also kept picking up the postcards we got from the hostess and not giving it back. Definitely a bizarre experience. -

Hadn't been to this place since it was Olive's years ago. This place has a better vibe, better light & it's more upscale casual. Olive's was a bit stuffy. I'd give the aesthetic here a higher mark than the food, which was fine...but just fine.
My husband's Branzini was just OK. Not bad he said, but not great. Small portion for the price. My corn risotto with blueberry and popcorn was odd & interesting, visually funky. I mean I ordered it because it was a weird combo & so no one's to blame but moi.
My buratta with peaches was also just OK for the price. I don't mind paying $18 for a really special appetizer but this just wasn't. Hard peaches and the buratta wasn't melt in your mouth soft and creamy deliciousness like some I've had.
The service was attentive and friendly w/ out being too much.
Ok, let's talk bathroom. It's far...through the buzzing lobby, past the hotel front desk, up a tall staircase, down a hall.... -

Had a great meal with a large group here before a show at Irving Plaza. The food is very tasty and the drinks are excellent. I had a decent cucumber and vodka cocktail to start, then tried:
+ burrata
+ crispy artichokes
+ butcher's block
+ kale & brussels salad
+ caesar salad
+ meatballs
+ rigatoni
+ margherita pizza
+ a pasta with truffle (forget the name)
Standout dishes were the artichokes and rigatoni. The service was a little lacking but overall I had a good experience.
